Assistant Director, Construction
Tyler joins the McGuire team with over 7 years of construction management and design experience. He began his career initially doing project management in the Photovoltaic and Electrical Contracting industries, and then transitioned careers as a project engineer with an ENR Top 400 construction management firm where he helped develop and manage a multitude of projects in the medical/health care, education, and market rate housing industries.
Tyler was rapidly promoted to a project manager position where he was tasked to oversee all facets of pre-construction efforts, design coordination, bidding, construction, and contract management, and eventual program management with clients for owner occupancy.
As associate director of construction, Mr. Mekus is responsible for leading multiple projects from design through construction to close out; developing and maintaining project budgets and schedules; maintaining client/owner communication and updates on progress; and overseeing the project architect and CM to maintain schedule and accuracies.
Tyler is originally from the Jamestown area. He became a Buffalo transplant while attending the University at Buffalo for his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design, as well as a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning. Mr. Mekus has also recently achieved his LEED AP Building Design + Construction Certification.
To complement his construction expertise Tyler has also completed internships with the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency, the City of Jamestown New York, and the University at Buffalo. Tyler has also volunteered with Junior Achievement, Buffalo Car Share, Re-Tree Western New York, and the Central Terminal Restoration Organization.
