Head,
neck, back, joints – pain can affect nearly
any part of the body and is a major cause of disability
in the United States. Chances are good, if you’ve
visited your primary physician or a specialist recently,
you’re suffering from some form of chronic
pain. If this is the case, you are not alone. Chronic
pain is a major cause of disability in the United
States and affects nearly 25-percent of the population.
Not only that, it also tops the charts as the greatest
source of health care costs in the country. While
the statistics are disturbing, so are the effects
that under-treated or uncontrolled pain can have
on a person’s mental and physical quality
of life.
To
meet the need for comprehensive, multi-dimensional
pain management, Neurosurgeon Dr. Loubert Suddaby,
Dr. Kristen Robillard of Lakeshore Primary Care
Associates and McGuire Development Company have
partnered in the development of the Omni Pain and
Wellness Center in Hamburg. “Pain can often
be overwhelming for both the patient and the doctor
treating it,” stated Dr. Robillard. “What
makes the Omni Pain and Wellness Center unique is
our multidisciplinary approach, beginning at the
primary care level and fanning out to numerous specialties.”
Instead
of simply managing pain, the Center will offer services
that treat and prevent pain such as exercise programs,
Pilates classes, nutrition counseling, weight loss
programs, smoking cessation programs, cutting edge
chiropractic techniques, physical therapy, massage
therapy, acupuncture and more. In addition, the
Center will feature a full radiology suite offering
the latest technology for MRI’s, sonograms,
x-rays and other advanced diagnostic testing. Until
now, treatment of this type would require a trip
to Brooklyn or other regions across the country.
To
construct a facility of this nature, McGuire Development
Company tapped into its vast resources and knowledge
of the health care construction industry. With more
than 30 years experience in operating nursing and
rehabilitation centers, its experts are fully versed
in the design, construction, financing and management
of medical office buildings. Most recently, the
company’s affiliation with Dr. Michael Landi,
and its construction of a $5 million, 43,000-square-foot
building for the Brain and Spine Center, lead to
a referral for the development of the Pain Center.
“Working with McGuire Development has been
an honest and trustworthy experience,” remarked
Dr. Suddaby. “We knew there was no way we
could enter into a project of this scale with just
any company. Since the development of medical space
differs greatly from typical commercial space, we
wanted a firm that would be forthcoming about costs,
space requirements and deadlines throughout the
process.”
As
for the future, the doctors are already looking
toward the possibility of opening additional comprehensive
pain and wellness centers in Depew and the Northtowns.
While
lifestyle choices and diet can often take their
toll in the form of pain, it is a welcome change
to see how progressive medical vision and futuristic
building development can attack the problem where
it hurts!
